Tenerife: Teide and La Masca

From the south we made a move to the north. The path from El Medano to the foothills was very scenic. First past towns and villages, then through a coniferous forest on a winding road to the lava and finally to the view of the snowy Teide . The national park is a little less than 200 square meters and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I've been to Tenerife for the second time, but this time I didn't conquer the highest peak in Spain (Teide is 3718m high). The excuse that I'll have to go back? Children are not advised to ride the cable car, so Klara and I stayed at the lower station, Urban was supposed to do the same, and my two were supposed to go to the top. When it was time to board, we learned that access to the top was prohibited due to snow. My parents were very disappointed, but we quickly decided to change our plans and have Urban go with them. They drove almost to the top. Klara and I went down and to one of the smaller hills. I expected that they would be late for the viewpoint, so Klara and I went for a walk. In fact, they came back really quickly , so we then hurried back to the car. We quickly decided to go for a walk towards Montana Blanca. This is the top where there is a hut where mountaineers who make the journey to Teide on foot spend the night. We walked about a third of the way. It was blowing hard, so it wasn't too hot. The path was a wide gravel road. Sand all around. A pleasant hike with a great view! We met quite a few hikers with big backpacks, as well as a few day hikers. Among them were two Slovenians.

Then we went to the famous lava tower where everyone takes pictures: Roques de Garcia. Accessible from the parking lot on the left next to the hotel. The most famous is Roque Cinchado, supposedly visited by 90% of tourists who come to Tenerife.

Then on to the next point: Icod de los Vinos. Since the hour was still solid and we had some time, we also headed to Masca . With this we saw another part of the Teide NP, since we did not return by the same route. As we were used to from Iceland, we watched how the landscape changes. Definitely, if I ever go to Tenerife again, I will look for base somewhere closer to the park because it is full of hiking trails that I believe would be worth walking. The road that leads to this village is... I don't know what to say ... dangerous, narrow and steep but at the same time extremely picturesque. Barranco del Masca was closed. We visited this mini village on the edge of the precipice. Cute!

From here to Icod de Los Vinos, a new apartment, which we were not so excited about :). The next day we visited the famous Loro Parque , which is really worth a visit. It is an unforgettable experience not only for children, but also for adults. The orcas in particular left me speechless for the second time. I didn't take many photos, nor did I film them, I preferred to take advantage of and enjoy the show live.

The next day it was time to explore on foot again…
