What to do in the Soča region if it rains?

🌧️ Rain in the Soča Valley? Don't panic! Here are some ideas for where to hide and how to distract yourself even on rainy days 👇

1. Kluže Fortress (Museum + trench under the fortress)

Old fortress from the 15th century with a presentation of the defensive history and role in World War I; underground tunnel (400 m) with a guide ( Soca Valley , Info Slovenia ).

  • family ticket €12
  • schedule: check on the official website
  • my opinion: very interesting – the fortress and I even more recommend visiting the trench under the fortress
  • You can see our experience here

2. Planika Cheese Museum, Kobarid

  • In the museum you can see an old cheese factory with a fire under the boiler and an archive cellar where old Tolmince cheeses mature. Also on display is a mountain hut with all the necessary equipment for processing milk into cheese, and an ethnological collection of old cheese-making tools.
  • schedule and price list: check on the official website
  • my opinion: interesting, I recommend it

3. Kobarid Military Museum (Kobarid Museum)

  • History of the Isonzo Front, permanent and temporary exhibitions, library, documentaries.
  • family ticket €20
  • schedule: check on the official website
  • my opinion: very interesting, more suitable for older children and adults

4. Raibl Lead-Zinc Mine (Miniera di Raibl)

  • Tourist and educational tour of the mine and tunnels with a guide (suitable footwear and clothing are essential, it's cold in the tunnel!) and a tour of the museum and mining equipment.
  • price: €15 adults
  • Schedule: Jun–Sep every day, other months weekends/holidays by reservation, more information on the official website
  • My opinion: Very interesting – for slightly older children

5. Ravni Laz Dairy

  • A renovated dairy located just above Bovec. A small collection of items related to dairy farming in the Bovec area.
  • Schedule: every Monday and Wednesday between 3 and 4 p.m., admission is free
  • My opinion: I only recommend visiting if you have some time to spare, otherwise it's nothing special, a very small collection, the tour will take you 15 minutes.

6. Fisherman's House – Kal Kortinica

  • A small and new museum about fishing on the Soča River, about the Soča River and the fish that live in it, interactive displays.
  • price: €13 family ticket
  • schedule: check on the official website
  • my opinion: the pond where the children fish is extremely interesting, I highly recommend a visit

And then:

Strgulc's house ,

Trenta House ,

Tolmin Museum and

Birthplace of Simon Gregorčič .

I don't have first-hand experience with the latter (we're going to Dom Trenta next time the weather is bad, it looks great), but these are recommendations from my followers.
