Trip to the Mythical Park Rodik

A day in nature and the world of myths

This is a trip that combines the beauty of nature, exploration of Slovenian mythological tradition and active leisure. The Myth Park is located in the village of Rodik, between Divača and Kozina, where the Karst and Brkini mountains meet. Here, the paths intertwine with stories from the past, myths about snakes, buckwheat and the mythical grandmother, which awaken the mysterious world of our ancestors.

Two thematic routes

The Mythical Park offers two themed trails that are suitable for both hikers and cyclists. Before you set off on your hike or bike ride, take about 30 minutes to stroll through the beautifully landscaped visitor center.

1. Lintver's Circle (10 km or shorter version 6.5 km)

It is a circular trail through the Brkini flysch forest, which takes you past six mythical points, where you can learn about the stories of Lintver (a mythological snake), Ajdi (giants) and other mysterious creatures. The trail is easy, a little up and a little down, mostly shady and suitable for families with children. In autumn, you can pick chestnuts or mushrooms along the way. A perfect trip in all seasons (with appropriate footwear and clothing, of course), if you are looking for an undemanding but interesting path through nature.

2. Babin krog (approx. 8.5 km) : This trail runs through karst terrain and is slightly flatter and sunnier (avoid in the summer heat). It takes you past mythical spots: Cikova jama, Baba and the Remeščica landslide.

For those who like cycling, both routes offer excellent opportunities for a bike trip (for children, the grandmother's circle is easier with a bike). There are points with sculptures along the way. Look for a metal box next to them where you will find a story. These myths are written in the local dialect. I recommend that you take the time to read them ( and translate them if you are not a local ).

Practical tips for visitors

  • Parking: you can park in the village of Rodik, at the Visitor Center or in front of the village, at the roundabout.
  • Suitable for children: Both trails are suitable for children, especially the Lintver Circle, which is shorter. If you are traveling with a baby or toddler, we recommend a baby carrier.
  • Footwear and clothing: We recommend sportswear and footwear adapted to the season, as the trails mostly run through forest and karst terrain.
  • Food and drinks: keep everything you need with you in your backpack.
  • How to explore? The trails are well marked and you can explore them independently using a map or app available at the Visitor Center. For a more in-depth experience, you can arrange a guided tour with a local guide.

Mythical stories and art

At each mythical point on the way, unique sculptures await you, bringing ancient myths and tales to life. As you explore, you will meet mysterious figures such as the dragon Lintver, the mythical Baba and the buckwheat, and immerse yourself in the stories that have circulated among the inhabitants of these places for centuries. These mythical stories offer insight into the way people in the past interpreted the world around them. Some are quite terrifying, but in our country, there are no taboo topics.

I highly recommend a visit to the Rodik Mythical Park! So put on your hiking boots, fill your backpack with snacks, and set off on an adventure into the mythical world that awaits you in Rodik.
