- a secluded peak with BEAUTIFUL views of Mangart, Jerebica, Jalovec (not that it isn't!)
- an easier option than Jerebica, for those who dream of a view of Rabeljsko Lake
- for experienced mountaineers and older children (7+ years)
- medium-difficult unmarked trail (the trail from the Slovenian side is clearly visible for a while, but you get lost in the ruins, but with a little orientation you can find your way around. For the descent, we chose the Italian trail, marked with red dots, which takes you below the Predelska battery.)
- 2 hours ascent with mules, about an hour descent
Route description
The trail begins on the Slovenian side. Where the obelisk is, you have to cross a meadow on the left (the path across the meadow is not visible) and a well-trodden steep path begins in the forest. There are no problems through the forest, but the path is narrow and caution is required. The view of the pass, Mangrt, etc. slowly begins to open up. When we reach the ruins, the path gets lost, but with some basic knowledge of orientation, you will find your way. Crouching through the ruins is necessary. Then a beautiful view of Jerebica soon opens up and the peak with the remains of the fortress is also visible on the right. The path then goes downhill. There is also the most dangerous part - a crumbling and collapsed fireplace . We crossed it slowly and carefully. There is another short climb to a small grassy peak with a boundary stone. The access to the fortress is overgrown, but with a little exploration you will also find a thorn bush. Because we didn't want to return through that more demanding fireplace and because we saw a nicely groomed path in the direction of Italy, we decided to do a circular tour (we didn't know exactly where the path would lead us, but we could guess). The path is very clearly visible and groomed. Mostly through the forest (there are also quite a few remains along the way). It is marked with red dots (on the trees) and a few small mounds. At the end, you have to cross a small stream.
The trail begins or ends at bend no. 2 ( tornata n.2 - on the Italian side, just below the Predel battery). From there you can go along the road or through the forest back to Predel to pick up your car.
I recommend that you choose to access and descend from the Italian side. Especially with children. There is also a parking lot along the road (if you drive down towards Lake Rabelj, the parking lot is on the right).
Otherwise, a wonderful, wonderful tour!
