Hike to Mrzli vrh from Avsa
If you're looking for an easy yet scenic hike that's suitable for the whole family, the climb to Mrzli vrh (1,359 m) from the village of Avsa is a great choice. The trail leads you through forests and meadows, rewarding you with stunning views of the surrounding peaks.
Starting point: Avsa village
The village of Avsa is located above Livko, and can be reached from Kobarid via Idrsko and Livko. At the end of the village (follow the signs for Matajur) there is a free parking lot for a few cars, where you can leave your vehicle and start the hike.
Route description
The path begins with a climb through the forest, where you will enjoy the shade of the trees. The path climbs steeply in some places, but gently in others. Once you reach a grassy clearing, you are already close to the summit. Continue past a house to a gravel road, where you turn right and follow the road, and at the first bend, turn right uphill to the saddle. From the saddle, it is only a few minutes' walk to the top of Mrzli vrh. Everything is well marked on the saddle. To the right is Srednji vrh, and to the left is Mrzli vrh.

Views from the top
From the top, you can enjoy beautiful views of Kobaridški Stol, the Kanin Mountains, Polovnik and peaks such as Jalovec and Mangart. On clear days, the view is truly breathtaking and worth every step.
Walking time
The climb will take you about 1.5 hours of moderate walking, depending on your pace and the number of stops. The trail is easy and suitable for younger children and those who do not have much hiking experience.
Stop at the Jelenov breg Tourist Farm
After returning to Avsa, we recommend a visit to the Jelenov breg Tourist Farm below Matajur. The farm is known for breeding fallow deer, which you can watch in the nearby enclosure. We sat there for 30 minutes and listened to the barking.
