We tested the Hvadnik via ferrata with a five-year-old and a seven-year-old.
Our starting point was the parking lot in Gozd Martuljek, next to the sports field . Parking is €0.80 per hour. After a short walk through the village, where we followed the red signs, we soon arrived at the Hvadnik stream and the Hvadnik gorge. Everything is really well marked.
The Hvadnik via ferrata begins with steel cables, crampons and the first stream crossing. We cross the stream a few more times later (four, maybe even five). This was everyone's favorite and best part of the via ferrata .
The via ferrata is rated B in difficulty, and C in some parts. In my opinion, it is suitable for children taller than 135 cm and with experience . It is not suitable for beginners, as in some places it requires a lot of climbing on the rock, where some of the cleats are "missing". We barely managed to get our five-year-old over somewhere. In one part (fortunately, there was such a possibility that there was a crossing along the path) the via ferrata was not possible. The via ferrata runs along the gorge of the Hvadnik stream and is slippery and slippery in several places, so I do not recommend climbing after heavy rain.
Our experience
We via ferratad for two hours . It was quite adrenaline-filled. At the end, I was already looking forward to the end, as it required quite a bit of strength in my hands and fitness. Nevertheless, the children proudly overcame the obstacles and they had a really good time !
At the top of the via ferrata, we were greeted by a bench with a beautiful view of the surrounding peaks and the village of Gozd Martuljek. Just a minute higher up is the Krmiše log cabin , where we enjoyed a well-deserved refreshment.
The Hvadnik via ferrata is beautifully landscaped and well maintained. It offered us a great adrenaline experience that I recommend to all families with experienced little climbers. It is an adventure that the children will remember for a long time.
