... a country I've wanted to visit for a long time. I've always dreamed of a real African safari, and even more so since I had children. As a child, I was read Zvoneta Šeruga's book, especially the one with little Kaja, and I hoped that I would visit Africa one day. And now it's really happening! I don't even understand it yet, but I'm SO excited!
Why I hid the destination... I'll be honest... I'm still not ready to tell all 2,000 people who view my stories every day where we're traveling. Mostly because I'm afraid I'll "give something away". Then a bunch of questions pile up before you even get to the destination, and the pressure (which I create for myself) to be as up-to-date as possible and to post as often as possible. We told our friends and acquaintances that we have nothing to hide, but that we'll share it with the wider world once we get there. We've got most of the things sorted out now - the plane tickets are in our pockets, the car is booked, the itinerary is roughly drawn up. All we need is a consultation at a travel clinic and a visa.
Where are we traveling? To Namibia! 🌍
Travel method – 4x4 adventure with roof tent
We will travel through Namibia on a budget, anyway . We will not hire a driver and go on an organized safari or sleep in luxury lodges. We are going on a real adventurous road trip , where we will explore the vastness of this interesting country with a 4x4 SUV with a roof tent (two smaller tents are mounted on the roof - we have not yet agreed on how we will divide the bedrooms). Our car will be our bedroom, our home on wheels. We will spend most of the nights in camps and some in the wild . Namibia is 40 times larger than Slovenia and one of the least populated countries in the world. Despite its size, it has only 2.5 million inhabitants , which means that we will be able to enjoy freedom and solitude.
We only booked four nights in advance:
-
three nights in camps in Etosha , where we will go on a self-drive safari and wildlife watching,
-
One night at the ranch , where rhino tracking awaits us – we will search for rhinos on foot!
We will look for everything else as we go. We have a list of locations and attractions ready, but we will adjust the pace of the trip to the conditions, the weather, and how we feel.
What do we want to see and experience? 👀
Namibia is supposedly a great combination of wilderness, desert, wildlife and unique cultures . In three weeks we will:
✅ Climbed the highest dunes in the world in Sossusvlei.
✅ Go for a jeep ride on the coast of Walvis Bay, where the ocean meets the desert.
✅ Watched seals in Cape Cross.🦭
✅ Camped under the granite rocks of Spitzkoppe , where the sky is full of stars.
✅ Met the Himba people.
✅ Experience a safari in Etosha. 🦁
✅ Met desert elephants and rhinos in Damaraland. 🐘
✅ Explored the Waterberg Plateau and walked along the red cliffs.
We will skip the south of the country and prefer to stay more in the central part and the north.
Before leaving, we already spent...
So far we have paid for the trip:
-
Flight tickets for 4 people: €2,466 (2 adults + 2 children and 2x 23 kg luggage). We are flying with Lufthansa and have a direct night flight Munich-Windhoek.
-
4x4 car rental with tent for 19 days : approx. €2,250
-
Camps in Etosha (3 nights) + overnight stay at the ranch and rhino tracking : €215
The remaining costs will be fuel, food, entrance fees to national parks and accommodation (campsites).
Why is this my dream trip?
Namibia as a destination suits us very much for its travel style and the freedom associated with it.
Of course, the fact that we will see animals in their natural environment, not in a zoo . And meeting tribes. My husband is looking forward to driving on gravel roads (I'm a little less so).
When are we leaving?
Of course, we got the cheapest flight tickets outside of school holidays. We're flying on May 7th! ✈️ When planning, we also took into account the gardening season. May is beautiful in Namibia, maybe a few showers, warm during the day, but cold at night.
I can't wait to take you on this adventure with me! 🚀 If it goes smoothly, otherwise with a delay.
