Life on Mars hiking trail

If you read my blog regularly, you know that we went to the island of Pag for my running challenge. The run was a real challenge! You can find the post here . So I wanted something more relaxed for the next day – a family hike.

The Life on Mars hiking trail was a kind of regeneration tour, partly in the same area where I ran the previous day, but this time I took the time to experience the trail and the landscape around us at a slower pace.

The starting point of our route was the football field above the village of Metajna .

The sun's rays were already shining all around when we set off in the morning. The path led us through a rocky landscape. First through a pine forest just above the village. After the climb, we came to a long, perfectly flat wall and continued along it. There were a few descents and ascents. A little up and a little down. Through a bare rocky landscape, and in between we arrived at a green oasis every now and then and there to scare away the sheep. The wind blew mercilessly.

The path then took us into the canyon to the Seline cove, where we had a snack by the shore and watched the sea. Then we climbed back up to Slana beach, where we watched the via ferrata visitors. We continued past the Instagrammable rock and came to Ručica beach, where the path ends. We returned along the asphalt road to the village of Metajna.

The trail is suitable for children who are used to longer walks. We did a 9.5 kilometer circular tour. It took us three hours of walking (slow pace). The trail is also suitable for children in hiking backpacks. The terrain is a bit bumpy , but we are used to karst stone anyway. The trail is well marked (marked + the day after the run everything was in clearly visible red dots). I recommend taking enough water and snacks!

Urban said he also saw Martians (who are invisible to the parents). Otherwise, the desert left a nice impression on us. Really interesting landscape and a path worth visiting!
