Kokoška, 674 m (from Lokva)

  • Walking time: 1 hour ascent

  • Suitable for children: from three/four years old. Suitable for children in a baby carrier or in a hiking backpack. Not suitable for strollers.

  • Starting point: Lokev village

Description of the route: We leave the car at the cemetery in the village of Lokev. That's where the route begins. We look for a wide gravel road. At the chapel we turn right. The route is straight at the beginning and takes us past meadows. Also past the bee-hive and the trust's honey pump. Soon we come to a more overgrown part and a karst forest. The route starts to climb steeply. When we reach the "clearing" behind us we see the village of Lokev and there we can already see the antenna. After five minutes of walking we are at the top. The peak is wide. It doesn't offer much of a view. There is a hut at the top (with excellent food!), which is open on weekends. Expect quite a few visitors on weekends. The route is well marked, well visible and well-trodden. Completely safe, so it is suitable even for the youngest hikers. We return along the same route.

Additional information: If you prefer less crowded trails (like us), I recommend going to this peak during the week. There are many trails leading to Kokoška, but we like the one from Lokva the most because it is usually less visited than the one from the Bazovica border crossing.
